Listen: questioning your cough ahead of Action Mesotheolioma Day

There’s a call for more awareness for a disease that claims over 2,500 lives a year in the UK – with new research showing that those most at risk of developing the disease are still unaware of the symptoms.

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that develops in the lining that covers the outer surface of some of the body’s organs, linked to asbestos exposure. Among the industries and occupations most at risk are construction workers, firefighters, industrial workers as well as healthcare and education workers, as asbestos is estimated to remain inside 1.5 million residential and commercial buildings in the U.K.

This comes as new research by Slater and Gordon highlights how over 1 in 4 (28%) workers don’t think their employer has been honest about the risks of asbestos in their workplace.

Aston spoke to Jordan Bell, principal lawyer & head of industrial disease department.
