Helen Skelton on the dusting debacle

New research reveals adults spend on average 12 days per year – or 46 minutes every day – on time-sucking chores, like pairing socks, waiting for the washer or dryer to finish, or cleaning up after pets and youngsters.

35% of respondents say they would like to spend less time dusting and polishing, 29% want to vacuum less, and a fifth want to reduce their mopping. When it comes to keeping the home spick and span, we spend an average of 39 minutes per day – or 10 days a year – cleaning.

The data by Bosch also finds that 65% of people would like to be more efficient with their time, with over a third (37%) attempting to do something productive when doing a time-sucking chore.
